Welcome to Strange Love, Oakland’s alternative nail studio! Our private nail studio is by appointment only.
We specialize in nail art, long-lasting manicures on natural nails, structured hard gel & soft gel Après Nail extensions. We pride ourselves on being a squeaky-clean salon & staying on top of new nail trends. No overfilling of your nails happens here and we NEVER use files and buffers on more than one client (you can even take them home for free after your appointment!). Desks and implements are cleaned after each client with hospital-grade cleaning products.
Please note that every artist operates independently, so please contact them directly if you have any questions or to book an appointment.
The studio is located in the Piedmont area at 11 Croxton Ave, Oakland, California, 94611. There is plenty of free street parking but this is Oakland so please, never leave ANYTHING in your car.

Vanessa, the owner of Strange Love has been doing nails since early 2018.
She loves a good long stiletto and Japanese-inspired abstract art & specializes in Vegan and cruelty-free products.
When not doing nails she is most likely hanging out in a cemetery, thrifting, traveling, or cuddling her Boston Terrier Larry. (He might also make appearances at the shop!).

What era do you wish you were born in? I was born in the ’80s but I wish I could have been a teenager/adult then. Please take me back to all the goth clubs.

Weird things you collect: I don’t know where to start. I have a giant collection of vintage T-shirts. Embalming fluid bottles. House plants. Antique religious art. Taxidermy.

Lesley is at the beginning of her professional nail career, but her love of a good manicure goes all the way back. She recalls wowin’ ‘em with a Wet n Wild polka dot manicure in middle school homeroom and obsessing over the pink Bonne Bell peel-off polish as a kid. Her specialty is hand-painted gel manicures, but she is working on adding GelX extensions to her service offerings. When not doing nails, you can find her: hiking and/or chilling out with her dog Vinny; drawing; reading; or hanging out with her people.
